For those seeking opportunities in the Naval Architecture field, Serata Engineering is looking for a Naval Architect to join their team in Surabaya, Jawa Timur.
This role involves supporting the design, engineering, modification, and technical development of commercial and work vessels, engaging in various marine projects such as tugboats, barges, LCTs, SPOB/ships, workboats, and other commercial vessels. You will collaborate closely with shipyards, owners, class societies, suppliers, and Serata’s internal teams.
Here are the responsibilities for this position
- Perform engineering calculations and apply analytical methods to support design decisions.
- Conduct structural analysis for marine structures, including strength, fatigue, and safety assessments.
- Execute preliminary and detailed naval architecture calculations for various vessel types.
- Prepare and draft vessel particulars, lines plans, general arrangements, and technical specifications.
- Demonstrate familiarity with naval or commercial marine standards, classification society rules, and regulatory requirements.
- Possess a relevant degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Be proficient with CAD and marine design software; a working knowledge of structural or stability analysis tools is advantageous.
- Exhibit strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Show effective communication and collaboration skills for working with multidisciplinary teams and external partners.
- Prior experience in ship design, shipbuilding, or marine equipment projects in Indonesia is a plus.
The qualifications we are looking for include
- A Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- A minimum of 2–3 years of relevant experience in naval architecture, shipbuilding, shipyard engineering, marine engineering, or vessel design.
- A strong foundation in naval architecture, including hull design, stability, and vessel performance.
- The ability to review class rules, statutory requirements, and applicable marine standards.
- Experience preparing technical documents and calculations required for approval and inspection.
- Capability to support responses to class comments and technical queries.
- Familiarity with 3D CAD / ship design software is an advantage.
- The ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and class requirements.
- Good analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Willingness to travel to shipyards, vessel sites, and customer locations when required.
